Maintaining wind turbines is costly and logistically complex – especially when inspecting rotor blades. Lightning strikes can cause significant damage, the extent of which is difficult to assess without on-site inspection.

The IoT cloud application for condition monitoring developed by habemus! addresses this very challenge. Low-energy detectors installed in the rotor blades decentralize the measurement of lightning strike intensity. The collected data is transmitted via ZigBee to a control unit in the nacelle and then sent encrypted via LTE to the cloud.

There, the information is processed, visualized, and made available worldwide via a web application. Features such as email notifications for events, OTA firmware updates, remote control, and device management enable efficient, secure, and global operation.
